February 2008

What a crazy month it has been so far.  Matthew and I took a trip to visit Grandma and Grandpa all by ourselves.  I was a little nervous about flying by myself, but Matthew did so well on the plane.  The lady sitting next to me gave me the "oh no a baby" look when I sat down, but he mostly slept, which was an answer to my prayers and I am sure hers too:)   Anyway, on that trip, Matthew forgot how to sleep- oh man was he "grounded".  He decided that being up for 3 hours in the middle of the night was fun so that is what we did.  I really couldn't figure out what got in to him other than there was just more commotion during the day.  We are home and he is slowly getting back to his normal sleeping habits, and on the happy mom side I am too!   It was a good trip and his cousins just really love having him around.  Matthew's 2 yr old cousin  Boston kept saying "I want Matthew"  except it sounds like machu.  In fact my brother has nick named him Machu Pichu.  Which is probably why Boston calls him "Machu".  Or was it the other way around. :) Anyway, it was a good trip.

Other fun moments this month have been that Matthew discovered his toes.  I was so excited, I just love when babies grab their toes.  He loves to grab them and kind of roll onto his left side up until yesterday when he discovered how to roll from his back to his stomach which is all he wants to do now.  I think I scared him a little when I cheered for him.  It was pretty funny. Anyway, it is pretty cute.   He is getting used to being on his tummy, but gets a little mad about it when he is on too long.  I am guessing he will figure out how to roll back off his tummy here pretty quickly too.

When we were visiting our family this month, we tried a little rice cereal for Matthew and he absolutely loved it.  I have heard they usually spit it out, but he just moved it around his mouth and opened for more.  He wanted to "feed" himself and grabbed for the spoon.  oh and speaking of feeding himself, he started holding his bottle on his own too.  It looks awkward and he gets tired, but he is doing pretty good at it.  It is fun to watch him grasp for things and of course put it into his mouth because that is where everything goes.   Matthew has gotten pretty good at grasping a toy or even his pacifier with both hands and putting it into his mouth.  Sometimes he misses and they get stuck on his face and he hasn't quite figured out how to take them off.  It is kind of funny because he just starts to move his whole body and kind wiggle around until it falls off.  I sometimes just laugh at him as he tries to figure it out and then usually take the toy off of his face and hand it to him.

We are just going strong and staying busy.  I have been trying to keep up on scrapbooking and painting our dining room which I have to repaint now because we ended up not liking the color.  Oh well.  Eric has been busy with a little bit of travel for work and just the normal day to day things.
